Superintendent's Message
Thank you for visiting our website. As we begin a new school year, I would like to welcome back all of our students. It is hard to believe that summer is over and we have begun a new year. This is an exciting time for the Springfield Local Schools! I am happy to announce that we not only have added some new teachers over the summer but that we also added some new course offerings and services for our students. At the high school level, students will now have the opportunity to access classes on-line. At the elementary level we have restored both the art and guidance counseling programs to our curriculum.
At this time we are still waiting on our final district report card results. We are certain that we met more indicators than a year ago but are not sure of our district designation. Report cards have been delayed as the state auditor’s office checks on reports of attendance fraud from around the state. Our attendance has been verified by the auditor’s office and there are no problems.
It is wonderful to report that district finances are in good shape. The five year forecast shows that the district will be operating in the black for at least the next five years and we do not expect to have to ask our voters for new operating money anytime soon.
It has been a busy summer at Springfield High School. Workers have been busy abating our high school of asbestos. This had to be removed so that building can be demolished next summer as we ready to open our new building for the 2013-14 school year. Work has also begun on a new field house that will house football locker rooms, a practice wrestling room, and storage areas. Turning lanes for our new building have been installed on Sanitarium Road and a facelift for our maintenance facility has taken place. Our construction project continues to be on time and under budget. A year from now we will be moving into our new Junior High/High School. It is a beautiful building that will help provide 21st century learning for our students. Once again I would like to thank all of our supporters who have made this possible.
Springfield is a great place to be these days as we look forward with excitement to moving into our new building a year from now. Our excellent teaching staff looks forward to working with your children and we continue to spend your tax dollars wisely. Thanks again for your continued support.
